Oooops! Forgot to update on my walking...

Well I did my last training walk this week. Only did 4 miles.

I have been decorating my bra and it's all finished. Just as well really as the walk is TOMORROW!!

I'm feeling nervous, sick and excited. I'm sure everyhing is going to be fine and dandy but it's the not knowing that's doing my nut in!

I've raised well over £450 now so i'm really chuffed and am very grateful to everyone that has sponsored me.

We're dropping the kids off at my parents tomorrow at about 5pm to give us plenty of time to get into London. I will report back with pictures of me and my medal very soon.

Thanks for reading xx

I DID IT (well almost)!!!

Yesterday was the day of the 20 mile walk!

I was up and out of the door for 0640. I was feeling good and the sun was shining. My iPod was loaded with music and podcasts and I was wearing a pretty pink bumbag with odds and sods in!
I didn't walk overly fast as I knew I was going to be walking for quite a while so I didn't want to wear myself out in the first hour.
There were quite a lot of hills in yestrdays walk. I was toying with the idea of going back down to Southsea and just walking on the flat, up and down the prom but it's quite boring.

I enjoy walking up the hills. Once you have a rythm going it's ok. It's walking downhill I find really hard. You have to control your legs not to run away from your body and your toes get pushed forward in your shoes which hurts.

I walked in 3 different counties. West Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. I walked to Fernhurst, Grayswood, Hindhead and then Grayshott. I got to about 16 miles and I could feel a problem with one of my toes. My feet really started to hurt and so did my calves. I hit a bit of a wall and wanted to have a really good cry.

I took a deep breath, looked up to my Nan and Grandad and carried on. I managed to walk another 2 miles before feeling like my toe was about to drop off before calling Darren to come to my rescue.

It felt like heaven to sit down. I got home and into a lovely hot bath and then went to bed for an hour.

I only managed 19 miles and that took me 6 hours but I was very proud to have completed those 19 miles. I'm hoping on the night the adrenalin will help me (along with the pain killers!!)

I've got a few more walks to do in the next 2 weeks but that's that big one done. Until the actual night of course.

I'm hurting like hell today. We took the kids to Southsea and walked another 2.2 miles along the sea front. Time for painkillers and a chill on the sofa.

Well..........

My back is feeling a lot better than it did a few days ago! Still not brilliant but not terrible either.

I'm going to try and go out in the morning for an hour or so.
I don't intend on doing miles and miles but I need to see how it feels before I try and do a big
long walk at the weekend. I am hoping for 18 miles this weekend. It is a bit daunting especially with a less than
perfect back but I need to give it a go. I will go armed with painkillers and deepheat rub to get me by.

I dyed my bra PINK today and it looks great. It's still wet but even wet the colour looks really good. I got 2 iron on
rhinestone Breast Cancer ribbon motifs to put on the front and I will add sparkles around them. Pictures to follow.

I will let you know how I get on tomorrow. Wish me luck with the back. I think i'm going to need it!

Saturday, 25 April 2009

Well that's messed up that idea!!!!

I'm currently sat on the sofa in agony!! My back has gone funny again and it really hurts. I felt it twang as I got into the car this morning and has gradually gotten worse and worse. I can't stand up straight either.

I am sat here with a heat pack on in the hope that it might help and I've also taken pain killers. This keeps happening every few weeks so I think it's time I saw someone!!

I'm gutted as I am all geared up to do my 18 mile walk tomorrow which looks like an impossibility right now.

Oh well I have 2 more weekends after this one to get my 18 and 20 mile walks done. Hopefully I won't be out of action for too long :-(

7 miles walked yesterday

That was a nice walk. I had a good mix of hills which was welcome after walking on the flat at Southsea last weekend. It was really quite warm as well.

I added up today that I have walked 95 miles for far in my training. Not as many miles that I should have walked I don't think but at least I have trained and not left it until the last minute. I have got to walk 16 or 18 miles this weekend. Of course I'd love to get the 18 under my belt which just leaves 20 for next weekend. I'll see how it goes.

My booklet arrived yesterday with the route in which is quite exciting. It doesn't look very far on the map!!!

I'll write again after my weekend walk. I hope the weather stays nice but rain is forecast x

Feeling better!

I can actually walk today without every footstep hurting! 2 days since my walk. The weather is getting hotter. It's supposed to be 18 degrees tody, 19 tomorrow and 20 on Thursday with isn't so great as that's when i'm doing my next walk. It'll only be an 8 miler as it's when Elliott's at nursery. I need to remember i'm going for distance NOT speed.

I keep forgetting and set off too fast and get a bit tired out at about the 10 mile mark.

Then at the weekend I'll be heading back down to Southsea for my 16-18 mile walk. Must be mad!!

All for a great cause. I now have my bra which I need to get some sequins stuck on. I have ordered some pink sparkly fabric from ebay to make a little skirt on the bottom to cover up the spare tyre!

Just need to get hold of some fabric glue!

I will update after my Thursday walk presuming I haven't got heatstroke ;-)

I only did 12 miles

And I can't move! Just goes to show what not doing any walking for 3 weeks does!

I went down to Southsea and it was beautiful. The sun was shining even if it was a bit windy. I got there for 0720 and off I went. I walked 6 lengths which was only 12 miles. I was a bit gutted as I thought it was further but nevermind!

I'm really aching today to the point that each footstep hurts but it'll be ok. I'm going to go on another walk on Thursday and then I am aiming for 16-18 miles at the weekend in preperation for the 20 mile walk the weekend after.

I need to stretch as I can't believe how much I hurt at the moment. I'm such a wimp! I did get my first thumbs up from a lady who I presume is doing the Moonwalk too. I was wearing my Cap and t-shirt just to show off what I was training for.

I'm off to grab the deep heat! Take care x

Friday, 17 April 2009

Oh it's been a while!

I can't believe it's been so long since I've walked.

It's 30 days until Moonwalk and i'm bricking it. We came home from our holiday on Tuesday and since then I have had a horrible tummy bug. Today I am feeling better. Not brilliant but better.

My T Shirt, bra and cap came today which i'm going to wear on the night which is good. Not sure if the bra will be any good. It fits ok but isn't very supportive. Mght have to go out and buy something else that feels more comfy. Then time to get the glue and sequins out!

I'm hoping to get a walk done tomorrow. Not sure how far i'll manage but i've got to do something. Elliott's back at nursery on Monday but Emma doesn't go back to school until Wednesday. That means I can get another walk in on Thursday whilst Elliott's a nursery.

My 20 mile walk is planned for the 3rd May. That's going to be fun!!!! Need to try and up the mileage between now and then. 13 miles is the furthest I've done so far so I really need to try and do another 13 at least tomorrow.

I'll be back soon to let you know how I got on.

I'm walking in the rain, just walking in the rain!

Not such a glorious feeling but hey!
Hubby was right this morning when I text him to say boo hoo it's raining I don't want to go out in that. His response was to get out there with my waterproof on and walk. He's right. It's not going to be postponed on the actual night if it rains is it!! (I'll let him think he knows best just for now)

I never intended on going far today as i'm still a bit sore in the toe department after the longer walk at the weekend but I did 4.5 miles which takes my running total up to 76 miles completed so far.

We are off on our holidays next Friday (3rd April) for just under 2 weeks so I'd like to get another big walk done sometime over the weekend. Plus Elliott breaks up from Nursery tomorrow so it's going to be difficult trying to get a walk in with him at home.

Feeling good today. Just counted there are 51 days until the BIG ONE!

Cheers for reading xx

OH MY GOD!!! I managed 13 miles.........

I'm not going to write much as i'm a bit sore and I want to flake out on the sofa with my gorgeous kiddies as it's mothers day. I set out my route this morning and loaded my ipod with tunes and off I went.

I got Darren to drop me a few miles from home and I worked my route out from there. The sun was really warm which was nice. I've decided i'm not going for speed i'm going for distance. With it being warm I can't walk too fast for fear of collapsing so I just plod along at my own pace. When a fast song comes on the ipod it helps me speed up a bit.

I was determined to complete 13 miles today no matter how much it hurt. Jade Goodey passed away this morning and it was thinking of her that made me carry on. Thinking of how many people are in pain a million times worse that won't go away after a nice soak in a hot bath. This is what it's for and i'm proud I finished the 13 miles. I know it's only half way but I walked up a hell of a lot of hills today. It's helping build my stamina for the actual night which i'm hoping will be pretty flat.

My beautiful Husband had run me a lovely hot bath ready for when I got in which was greatly appreciated.

The first thing I did when I walked in the front door was burst into tears and ask for my inhaler. 13 Miles has been my mental block so now i've done it I hope i'll start to feel a bit better.

Thanks to everyone who has sponsored me so far. It's for such a worthy cause and every penny really does count. I'm off now to veg out and rub some lovely cream into my feet.

Thanks for reading xx

What a beautiful day for walking!

So I did!!

I dropped Elliott off at nursery and off I went as usual. Today I hadn't planned any route. I just thought i'd see where my feet took me. Quite a few hills today which slowed me down a bit but I am going for distance not speed. I have some great music on my ipod, (I remembered NOT to sing today as I was caught on Thursday and felt like an idiot) the sun was shining brightly and was so warm on my face. I pushed myself a bit today to try and walk faster even up the hills.

I got home after collecting Elliott and plotted my walk on Google Earth and was a little disappointed that i'd only done 8.5 miles. I was hoping i'd completed 10 at the most. Ah well it's better than being sat at home I suppose.

Darren and I started our diets again today. I'm almost off the steroid that was helping the weight gain and i'm in the right frame of mind to get losing again. Out of the 2.5 stone I lost last year I have only put on 1 stone 5lbs! This cheered me up as I thought i'd put nearly all of it back on.

So onwards and upwards. I'll go for another walk on Thursday and then I am hoping to do a long one over the weekend at some point. I need to complete 13 miles. I think once I've done that then some of my worries about actually being able to complete the 26 will go... well I hope so anyway! 8 weeks Saturday!!!

Cheers for reading xx

OOOPS! Forgot I did 8 miles on Thursday!

I totally forgot to update my blog on Thursday.

I have been feeling a bit poorly. I caught Emma's cough and cold which went straight to my chest and made my Asthma flare up again. I had been coughing just walking up the stairs so thought it was best I didn't walk until I felt a little better.

I dropped Elliott off at nursery on Thursday and off I went with my ipod full of tunes! It was a bit of a struggle but I managed 8 miles. It's now Saturday and my ankles are still really hurting. I think I may be having a flare of my Lupus too which isn't helping. If the weather is fine tomorrow I'm going to go out again and get a few miles under my belt.

Next weekend I'm going to Southampton to get fitted for some new trainers. I haven't had such a problem with blisters this week but my trainers still don't feel as comfy as I'd like.

Cheers for reading and i'll update after my next walk x

Feeling poorly but still managed 9 miles.

Emma started sneezing and coughing a few days ago. I woke up yesterday aching all over and feeling rubbish. I knew I needed to go for a walk as I didn't go for one on Thursday.
So I got ready with plenty of tissues in my pocket. My mum met me after a few miles and we ambled on.

I was really hoping to do 13 miles. I spent ages on Google Earth planning a 13 mile route. I think I got to about 8 miles and I started getting some chest pains so I thought it would be best to just head home.

Got home to my Mums and we had a lovely cup of tea. I get really really cold when I stop walking so that helped a bit. She drove me home and I got into a lovely deep hot bath. I hopped onto Google Earth to see how far I actually walked and it was 9 miles. A little disappointed but never mind. Better than nothing I suppose.

I'm supposed to be walking again tomorrow but i'm not sure yet. We all have really horrible coughs and colds. Maybe I should leave it for a few days until i'm feeling a bit better.

So far out of 6 training walks I have covered 42 miles. I'm quite chuffed really.

Goodness me I just walked 10 miles!!

As the title says really I just got back from walking 10.24 miles. That took me 2.5 hours and I really enjoyed it.
I would have enjoyed it more had my little toe stopped rubbing but I plodded on anyway. I have fantastic socks so I think the next thing to try and change is my trainers. Maybe some with a bigger toe area. The thought of walking 26 miles is scaring the life out of me at the moment but i'm sure it'll all be fine!

Off to have a soak in the bath now. I'll be back soon xx

8 miles walked today - Result!

And now my ankles are hurting and i'm starting to ache a bit.

It was a really fresh morning. Blue sky and the sun was shining. However there was quite a hard frost which made it a little difficult to walk at any speed for a couple of miles. I was enjoying my Podcasts and music. I have noticed that my pace is picking up a little. The last time I walked I did 5 miles in just under 1 1/2 hours. Today I managed 8 miles in 2 hours which I thought was pretty good.

My new socks are just perfect and i'm glad I spent a little extra as they are SO comfortable. My little toe started to rub a bit towards the end but I think it's where it was broken years ago. It's a bit of a funny shape. Will get some cushioning for that I think.

I'm hoping to go for another walk on Saturday. Probably not as far as today. Maybe 5 miles. Then the walk after that i'll do the 8 again but see if I can get another mile sneaked in at the end.

Thanks for reading if you got this far. I'll report back soon xx

I haven't walked for a week!

So I am hoping to get a jolly good walk in tomorrow. The sun is supposed to be shining and i'm really looking forward to it. I wasn't really able to do any walking this week as we've had snow and torrential rain!

I have just been out and bought some new socks. They are made my Falke and they cost me £11 so they better be good or i'm going to be most upset. If I still get a blister tomorrow then I think it'll be time to invest in some more trainers. I didn't want to change the trainers 1st. I started with the cheap option.

Elliott is at nursery tomorrow so that gives me 2 1/2 hours. I should be able to walk a fair distance in that time as long as I remain blister free!

Wish me luck. I'm going to need it after having a week off. I'll report back tomorrow xx

5 Miles under my belt!

Well as the title says I managed to complete 5 miles this morning.

I need to get some new socks!! My trainers are really comfy but I can't stop my socks from rubbing once i've been walking for about an hour. I am sporting 2 blisters!! The walk was good. The weather was good for walking. Dry and quite fresh. I did have the wind blowing in my face for about 40 minutes but once I turned around it was giving me a helping hand. Quite a few big hills mixed into the walk today so I wasn't seeing how fast I could finish but I was still walking pretty fast (well for me anyway)

I managed the 5 miles in just under 1 hour 30. Once my blisters have healed a bit and i've bought some new socks i'm going to try another 5 mile walk then onto the 7 mile.

My training pack hasn't come yet but according to the Walk the Walk website they are being sent out towards the end of January. So I suppose it'll be here any day now. the official 12 week training doesn't start until about the 22nd February so i'm getting a bit of a head start.

I'll write again once I have new socks and I am blister free. I'm going to miss out Mondays walk but hope to get out on Thursday morning whilst Elliott is at nursery.

Thanks for reading and many thanks to anyone else who has sponsored me. xx

5 mile walk planned for tomorrow

Me again...

I couldn't get my walk in on Thursday. I had to go for my weekly blood test as I forgot the previous week and then I had to wait in for the council to come out and replace 4 of my windows at home. I have just worked out a route for tomorrow and i'm looking forward to my 5 mile walk. Hopefully the weather will be good. It's been a nice day today if a bit cold but cold is ok! It's the wet i'm not keen on.

I'll be back tomorrow to let you know how I get on and how long it takes me. There a quite a few big hills on tomorrows walk so i'm not expecting a super fast time. Just a good walk!

Wish me luck x

A little disappointed today!

I was intending on doing a really good 6 or so miles today. The weather is dry and perfect for walking. iPod is loaded with music and pod casts. Comfy trainers and my 1000 mile socks at the ready.

I dropped Elliott of at nursery and realised I had left my iPod at home. I can't really walk without it as I get bored so in the car I got and went home to collect it. I parked up at nursery and off I went.

Loving the walk, feeling the burn of a hill that looks almost flat when you're in the car but feels like you're climbing a mountain when you're actually walking it. About 45 minutes in my little toe feels like it starting to rub a bit so I figure i'll make it to the end of the road (which is just under half a mile long) and i'll sort my sock out!

Well I got to the end, sorted my sock out where it had been rubbing and I think i'm getting a blister! I did my trainer back up and it's really sore. I decided to end my walk there for fear of getting a big nasty blister. So I am a bit disappointed. I wanted to keep walking until Elliott finished nursery at 12. Instead I finished at half 10, only an hour after I started!

I have worked out with my friend Google Earth that I managed 4.7 miles today. Still better than nothing isn't it. I'm going to try and get some seamless socks to stop the rubbing. Hopefully I'll manage a longer walk on Thursday. Take care xx

Did a weeny walk yesterday

Well I was still aching from the little 4 mile walk I did on Thursday so I took a stroll with Darren and the kids yesterday. We went and fed the ducks then went to the local park. I forgot about the MASSIVE hill we had to walk up on the way home but I walked with Emma so I had the excuse to walk slowly up it.

The sun was shining and it wasn't too cold which was nice. I have just measured it on Google Earth and it was only 1.3 miles but still better than nothing.

Tomorrow I am planning on a 6 mile walk. Elliott is at nursery from 9.15 to 12 so that is plenty of time. If i'm not too drenched or far away from where I have to collect him then i'll keep going and measure when I get home.

I think 6 miles will be enough though for my 2nd proper training walk. I have downloaded more pod casts to my iPod so that'll keep me company. I have more comfey shoes than I had last week as well which will help!!

I am still waiting for the proper training schedule from Breast Cancer Care so I'm making it up as I go along really. I think they are leaving it a bit late for 1st timers like me to get training, but there you go.

Lastly a HUGE THANK YOU to the few sponsors I have so far. It means so much to me and gives me that much more incentive to get out in the wet and train so on the night I make it over that finish line. Thanks again xx

1st training walk, in the rain, uncomfy shoes - DONE!

YAY! I finally got into gear and went on my first training walk this morning. I dropped Elliott off at nursery and off I went.

I don't have any decent trainers yet so wore my useless ones with my 1000 Mile socks that feel really nice. I decided to ditch the purple pac-a-mac as I get really warm when I walk and that would have made it even worse.

Thanks to my lovely Husband I had my pink iPod Shuffle to keep me company and a collection of pod casts to listen to. I got into a good rhythm and enjoyed it.
I have just got home and worked out on Google Earth that it was 4 miles and I did that in 1 hour 15 min's. I'm hoping I'll get faster the more I walk.

Hopefully the weather will be better at the weekend and I'll get another walk in then. I NEED some good trainers as my feet are hurting. I think the ones I had on have next to no support.

I'll be back soon with more. Bye xx

OK so it chucked it down....

... and Emma was off school with a nasty cough. Walk is rescheduled for Thursday morning.

Please sponsor me!

I forgot to add that I have set up a fundraising page with bmycharity. If you wish to sponsor me you can do so HERE

Very many thanks for your support xx

Ok so it's been a while....

I haven't updated this for ages which is pretty poor!

Happy new Year to everyone. I hope you had a great christmas. I was hoping to start my training a lot earlier than this but I have been suffering a bit with my Lupus. My Rheumatologist has upped my medication so hopefully i'll start to feel better soon.

Tomorrow I am emarking on my first training walk. I have worked it out on Google Earth and it's just over 5.5 miles. My Mum is going to join me and i'm really looking forward to it. I hope it's not going to rain but I know I need to do it even if it does! If I don't start training now I never will.

I'm also on the look out for some new trainers. Need something super comfy and supportive. I've been pointed in the direction of a few good pairs so i'll go and get some tried on.

I'll write again tomorrow after my walk to let you know i'm still alive and how I got on xx
