5 Miles under my belt!

Well as the title says I managed to complete 5 miles this morning.

I need to get some new socks!! My trainers are really comfy but I can't stop my socks from rubbing once i've been walking for about an hour. I am sporting 2 blisters!! The walk was good. The weather was good for walking. Dry and quite fresh. I did have the wind blowing in my face for about 40 minutes but once I turned around it was giving me a helping hand. Quite a few big hills mixed into the walk today so I wasn't seeing how fast I could finish but I was still walking pretty fast (well for me anyway)

I managed the 5 miles in just under 1 hour 30. Once my blisters have healed a bit and i've bought some new socks i'm going to try another 5 mile walk then onto the 7 mile.

My training pack hasn't come yet but according to the Walk the Walk website they are being sent out towards the end of January. So I suppose it'll be here any day now. the official 12 week training doesn't start until about the 22nd February so i'm getting a bit of a head start.

I'll write again once I have new socks and I am blister free. I'm going to miss out Mondays walk but hope to get out on Thursday morning whilst Elliott is at nursery.

Thanks for reading and many thanks to anyone else who has sponsored me. xx

5 mile walk planned for tomorrow

Me again...

I couldn't get my walk in on Thursday. I had to go for my weekly blood test as I forgot the previous week and then I had to wait in for the council to come out and replace 4 of my windows at home. I have just worked out a route for tomorrow and i'm looking forward to my 5 mile walk. Hopefully the weather will be good. It's been a nice day today if a bit cold but cold is ok! It's the wet i'm not keen on.

I'll be back tomorrow to let you know how I get on and how long it takes me. There a quite a few big hills on tomorrows walk so i'm not expecting a super fast time. Just a good walk!

Wish me luck x

A little disappointed today!

I was intending on doing a really good 6 or so miles today. The weather is dry and perfect for walking. iPod is loaded with music and pod casts. Comfy trainers and my 1000 mile socks at the ready.

I dropped Elliott of at nursery and realised I had left my iPod at home. I can't really walk without it as I get bored so in the car I got and went home to collect it. I parked up at nursery and off I went.

Loving the walk, feeling the burn of a hill that looks almost flat when you're in the car but feels like you're climbing a mountain when you're actually walking it. About 45 minutes in my little toe feels like it starting to rub a bit so I figure i'll make it to the end of the road (which is just under half a mile long) and i'll sort my sock out!

Well I got to the end, sorted my sock out where it had been rubbing and I think i'm getting a blister! I did my trainer back up and it's really sore. I decided to end my walk there for fear of getting a big nasty blister. So I am a bit disappointed. I wanted to keep walking until Elliott finished nursery at 12. Instead I finished at half 10, only an hour after I started!

I have worked out with my friend Google Earth that I managed 4.7 miles today. Still better than nothing isn't it. I'm going to try and get some seamless socks to stop the rubbing. Hopefully I'll manage a longer walk on Thursday. Take care xx

Did a weeny walk yesterday

Well I was still aching from the little 4 mile walk I did on Thursday so I took a stroll with Darren and the kids yesterday. We went and fed the ducks then went to the local park. I forgot about the MASSIVE hill we had to walk up on the way home but I walked with Emma so I had the excuse to walk slowly up it.

The sun was shining and it wasn't too cold which was nice. I have just measured it on Google Earth and it was only 1.3 miles but still better than nothing.

Tomorrow I am planning on a 6 mile walk. Elliott is at nursery from 9.15 to 12 so that is plenty of time. If i'm not too drenched or far away from where I have to collect him then i'll keep going and measure when I get home.

I think 6 miles will be enough though for my 2nd proper training walk. I have downloaded more pod casts to my iPod so that'll keep me company. I have more comfey shoes than I had last week as well which will help!!

I am still waiting for the proper training schedule from Breast Cancer Care so I'm making it up as I go along really. I think they are leaving it a bit late for 1st timers like me to get training, but there you go.

Lastly a HUGE THANK YOU to the few sponsors I have so far. It means so much to me and gives me that much more incentive to get out in the wet and train so on the night I make it over that finish line. Thanks again xx

1st training walk, in the rain, uncomfy shoes - DONE!

YAY! I finally got into gear and went on my first training walk this morning. I dropped Elliott off at nursery and off I went.

I don't have any decent trainers yet so wore my useless ones with my 1000 Mile socks that feel really nice. I decided to ditch the purple pac-a-mac as I get really warm when I walk and that would have made it even worse.

Thanks to my lovely Husband I had my pink iPod Shuffle to keep me company and a collection of pod casts to listen to. I got into a good rhythm and enjoyed it.
I have just got home and worked out on Google Earth that it was 4 miles and I did that in 1 hour 15 min's. I'm hoping I'll get faster the more I walk.

Hopefully the weather will be better at the weekend and I'll get another walk in then. I NEED some good trainers as my feet are hurting. I think the ones I had on have next to no support.

I'll be back soon with more. Bye xx

Please sponsor me!

I forgot to add that I have set up a fundraising page with bmycharity. If you wish to sponsor me you can do so HERE

Very many thanks for your support xx

Ok so it's been a while....

I haven't updated this for ages which is pretty poor!

Happy new Year to everyone. I hope you had a great christmas. I was hoping to start my training a lot earlier than this but I have been suffering a bit with my Lupus. My Rheumatologist has upped my medication so hopefully i'll start to feel better soon.

Tomorrow I am emarking on my first training walk. I have worked it out on Google Earth and it's just over 5.5 miles. My Mum is going to join me and i'm really looking forward to it. I hope it's not going to rain but I know I need to do it even if it does! If I don't start training now I never will.

I'm also on the look out for some new trainers. Need something super comfy and supportive. I've been pointed in the direction of a few good pairs so i'll go and get some tried on.

I'll write again tomorrow after my walk to let you know i'm still alive and how I got on xx
